Second annual countywide ‘Chief for a Day’ program

    June 7th, 2012

Several Pascack Valley police chiefs seemingly “got the day off” on June 1, when they each appointed a new first-in-command as part of the second annual countywide “Chief for a Day” celebration.

The event, a partnership between the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association, enabled children who are battling chronic illnesses the opportunity to get an up close look at police work.Throughout the county, children, clad in their own “chief” uniforms, were administered oaths of office, held meetings with command staffs and cruised around in patrol cars with officers.

Westwood 6-year-old Christopher Mrsich served as the Westwood Police Department’s “Chief for a Day” last Friday. Earlier that morning, he was picked up in a police car and brought to headquarters with his “Deputy Chiefs” – his twin brothers, George and Thomas. Upon his arrival, Christopher was sworn in by Westwood Councilman Robert Miller and was also given a tour of headquarters, as well as breakfast in Chief Frank Regino’s office.
