    PRESS RELEASE: MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVOLVING PEDESTRIAN

    At 6:42 p.m., January 23rd, 2017 the Westwood Police Department responded to the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Park Avenue for a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. The pedestrian, a 77 year old male from River Vale, was crossing 3rd Avenue, walking westbound in the cross walk when he was stuck by a vehicle travelling south on 3rd Avenue. The pedestrian sustained substantial injuries and was stabilized on scene by members of the Westwood Police Department, Hackensack University Medical Center Advanced Life Support, and the Hillsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corp before being transported to Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack for treatment.

    The driver, a 32 year old male from Hillsdale, was evaluated and transported by members of the Westwood Volunteer Ambulance Corp to Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley in Westwood for treatment.

    The investigation, which is still on-going, was conducted by the Westwood Police Department Traffic Bureau, in conjunction with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Investigation Unit under the direction of Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Robert Anzilotti, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation under the direction of Sheriff Michael Saudino.
